Ground broken on $10M 8,500-square-foot event center at Booker T. Washington State Park

State officials at Booker T. Washington State Park in Chattanooga broke ground Friday on a $10 million, 8,500-square-foot multi-use event center, ushering in the first major update in years at one of the state's oldest parks.

"When we closed the pool here during and just after the pandemic," Watson said, "we realized that we were taking down a monument to this community. It was a really big deal."

Watson met with community leaders to formulate ideas, he said, then met with park manager Gardner to learn about his vision for the event center.
