Volkswagen launches 2027 Atlas SUV in Chattanooga
Top Volkswagen officials celebrated the launch of the 2027 Atlas and Atlas Cross Sport models at the company's Chattanooga plant as the German automaker embarks on the most significant downsizing in its history.
The 2027 model of the seven-seat Atlas features an updated design with more premium features on the interior. It is, according to Hamilton County Mayor Weston Wamp, "the most attractive vehicle that's ever been built in Chattanooga." The new Atlas begins at $41,610. The five-seater Atlas Cross Sport shares the same platform and engine as the Atlas with a sloped roofline.
"The auto manufacturing industry certainly has faced significant challenges, both nationally and globally, including increased competition, supply chain and logistics pressures and broader economic uncertainty," state Sen. Bo Watson, R-North Chattanooga, said at the ceremony. "It's really pleasing to see Volkswagen's continued success and commitment to our community and the state of Tennessee."
Volkswagen employs more than 4,000 people in Chattanooga and has invested more than $4.3 billion in the site. The main plant covers 3.8 million square feet under one roof. The plant's employees have made more than 1 million Atlas cars and more than 1.8 million cars total.
