Hamilton County unveils larger, $12M medical examiner’s office
The Hamilton County Medical Examiner’s Office and Regional Forensic Center is moving into a new space on Holtzclaw Avenue after a 3-year, $12 million renovation of a former medical office building.
A statement from county leaders says the new 13,342-square-foot facility replaces the current 5,800-square-foot office on Amnicola Highway built in the 1980s.
The new center is equipped with more modern technology to help investigators identify individuals quicker while accurately preserving important evidence, the county says.
State Senator Bo Watson says he recognized the need to replace the aging Amnicola location and advocated on the county’s behalf to help secure state funding.
“The State of Tennessee has always highly valued our citizens’ quality of life, from the time it begins to the time it ends,” said Senator Watson. “Our funding for this facility directly benefits not only the staff working there, but all of the individuals who it will service, as well as their families, giving them the utmost care and respect.”
