EPB hosts first-ever “Quantum in Business” conference in Chattanooga

EPB hosted its inaugural Quantum in Business conference in Chattanooga on Thursday, October 1.

Officials describe the conference as being designed for business leaders to discuss how quantum technologies are being used to address real-world challenges. Basically, the conference is meant to show businesses why they should invest in the technology.

Industry executives, technology experts, policymakers and government officials attended the conference on Thursday at The Westin.

An EPB spokesperson said the conference features discussions on how quantum technology can be used in businesses to make improvements, including those EPB has made to its own grid.

Officials say that Hamilton County is the only county across the nation that offers K-12 quantum-ready courses.

According to Sen. Bo Watson, Tennessee is starting to see the outcome of a decade’s worth of work in quantum across the state. He said the state’s role is to build the infrastructure for quantum.

“People are moving here in droves. Nashville is the fastest-growing city in the country. We have all kinds of businesses looking to locate here. Having this kind of technology available to them, again, affecting their efficiency, affecting their productivity in a positive way, should drive more and more industry and business to come to this state. And when those people start coming, that brings more research and development, that brings more people into the academic space, which helps us continue to develop our workforce and help to develop our students for the future that this economy is creating,” said Sen. Watson.
